Job overview

Specialist Community Children's Nurse

Vacancies in Rainbow Children’s Unit, Children’s Community Nursing Team and Tulip- Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Service

Croydon Health Services offers a truly integrated approach to paediatric nursing across our acute and community services. Supporting seamless pathways for children and young people between the hospital and their home for children requiring short-term admissions to those with long-term health needs.

Do you want to be part of our growing team at an exciting time? We have vacancies and development opportunities available for Children’s Nurses at band 5, band 6 and band 7 to join our fantastic teams on Rainbow Children’s Unit at CUH and in the community as part of the Children’s Community Nursing Team and the Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Team. Supported by specialist services you will have the opportunity to develop your nursing career across a variety of fields in our acute or community services.

Main duties of the job

The team works in partnership with health and social care organisations reducing the need for hospital intervention. You will be working alongside and under the guidance of senior colleagues working within specific competencies to provide care in Children and Young people’s homes.

As a team we have strong connections and opportunities for joint working with the Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Team based within special schools. Together the teams work in partnership ensuring the co-ordination and case management of these Children and Young people to ensure their needs are met.

Caseload needs of the Children and young people on your caseload will include care and use of central venous and intravenous devices and pumps, tracheostomy, naso- gastric and gastrostomy tubes, saturation monitors, suction machines, oxygen concentrators and cylinders and ventilators and any other nursing care/procedures. With the support of our practice education team, you will be supported to obtain/maintain competencies. There are opportunities to have protected time working across paediatrics in Croydon to get to know your caseload in acute/school environment, develop or further your clinical skills and to work within the MDT in advocating for your patients.

Working for our organisation

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon. The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Around 4,100 staff provide services for a population of over 360,000 people who are relatively young with a high level of ethnic diversity.

Our main hospital site, Croydon University Hospital is one of the busiest in London. We’re also leading the way in providing more healthcare outside hospitals at clinics, specialist centres and in people’s homes. Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after people of all ages across Croydon and our Children’s Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.

Across the NHS everyone is working hard to meet growing demand and we’re no exception. But with the right people on board, we are rising to this challenge, putting our people in the driving seat, encouraging innovation and transforming our services to give local people the quality of care they deserve. Croydon Health Services puts a great deal of importance on education and training throughout the careers of all of our staff. As well as offering access to a range of core skills training and professional development.
