Day Assessment Midwife

Job overview

We have an opportunity for an experienced midwife to join our day assessment team.

The post holder will be a clearly identifiable and essential clinical member of the Maternity Day Assessment Unit, alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team. They will have significant clinical experience, provide sound clinical expertise to ensure delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate evidence based care.

As an NMC registrant they will demonstrate strong leadership qualities, be open, transparent and trustworthy and uphold the NMC Code of Conduct. They will facilitate the learning and development of others.

Main duties of the job

 To provide maternal and fetal surveillance to women attending DAU in order to optimise maternal and fetal well being

To provide safe and women centred care in collaboration of other members of the multidisciplinary team and departments

To maintain a safe environment responding to emergencies

To provide direct, woman-centred care during the antenatal period; and have detailed clinical knowledge of this specialist area of Midwifery practice.

To work in partnership Maternal and fetal Medicine ensuring consistency and continuity of care for women with medically complex pregnancies.

To ensure that all episodes of care are documented in an appropriate and accountable way; disseminating all relevant changes in the woman’s condition to the multi-disciplinary team.

To maintain up-to-date professional knowledge; which is demonstrated through safe and effective clinical practice.

To show compassionate behaviour towards women and their families; ensuring that equality and diversity differences are respected, and women and their families are enabled to be partners in their own care.

To ensure that women and their families receive information in a sensitive way, to enable them to make informed decisions about all aspects of their care.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Midwifery diploma/degree/degree or significant experience in related subject
  • Practice supervisor/assessor

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial recent experience of working as a Registered Midwife
  • Recent experience of working in an ambulatory service setting
  • Experience of working across a variety of midwifery settings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience specifically relating to working with high risk obstetric complications
  • Knowledge of pre-existing medical comorbidities that may affect their pregnancy care pathway

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to work autonomously & independently
  • Ability to recognise and respond to emergencies
  • Ability to work with the multidisciplinary team
