Job overview

The Fetal Medicine Unit at UCLH is a world class leader in its field. Our highly specialist department treats over 5000 patients a year involving 700 prenatal diagnostic procedures. UCLH is proud to be commissioned by the NHS to provide prenatal fetal surgery and has close links with specialists from Great Ormond Street, running regular joint clinics. 

We are looking for a Band 6 Midwife to join our Fetal medicine unit. Our team provide high quality care that is safe, kind and meets individual needs. You will be a proactive and dynamic midwife who can function in a busy department. This role requires exceptional communication skills to help families navigate the challenges and choices that complicated pregnancies present.

Main duties of the job

You will work seamlessly within the multi-disciplinary team and will have good attention to detail. As a clinical expert in Midwifery, you will be committed to improving quality, safety, and patient experience. No prior experience of fetal medicine is necessary, although a keen interest and awareness is. 

We have a warm and welcoming Maternity team, new and well-equipped facilities, and above all our commitment to quality care and safety is absolute. You will work in a team of 8 midwives and one maternity support worker on a Monday-Friday basis.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered midwife
  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Must have completed a 12-months preceptorship programme
  • Up to date knowledge of professional nursing and midwifery issues
Desirable criteria
  • Neonatal course of relevant experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching and mentoring more junior staff
  • Familiarity with basic IT applications
  • SSSA

  • Experience of undertaking research
