Are you an experienced health care professional  in working with Looked After Children and passionate  about improving  health  & wellbeing   outcomes ?

NELFT is committed to enhancing our services to children and young people  and we are looking for three  senior nurses to take on the roles of Named Nurses for Looked After Children in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. Thurrock

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking for experienced nurses who have are committed to improving  the health and well-being of looked after children. You will need to have comprehensive knowledge and experience of working with children in care and wider system partnership working . The post holder will need to demonstrate a deep understanding of the health needs of looked after children and be a strong advocate for their voice to be heard. The Named nurse will support the implementation of service development, standard setting, clinical audit and benchmarking, to deliver needs-led evidence-based care that supports the local and national priorities for children in care.. This post holder will manage the LAC nursing team and participate in the care and assessment of children who are looked after, planning their care and transition beyond care into adulthood.

You will also play a key  role in progressing a number of  projects to improve  services across NELFT and work closely with key stakeholders including children who are looked after . This role will also involve close working with locality based partnerships to work effectively to safeguard and promote the welfare of looked after children.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.  All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

 

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,192 to a maximum of £2,011 p.a. pro rata for part time).

To be successful you will need to be highly organised, innovative, creative and passionate about the well being of children who are care experienced and have the experience, drive and enthusiasm needed for this complex but rewarding role.

The post holder will have a high profile and improve the standard of Looked after Children  knowledge and practice within NELFT

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse first level
  • Significant experience post registration working within community health care
  • Teaching/Mentoring Qualification/working towards
  • Have significant clinical experience of the health needs of children and young people and the health needs of looked after children
  • aware of Current legislation and guidance in relation to Looked After Children and Safeguarding Children
  • Providing clinical / management supervision
  • Have proven negotiation and leadership skills
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with all agencies
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Health Visitor/School Nurse/Community Nurse/CAMHS qualification
