Main duties of the job

Here at NELFT Health Visitors and School Nurses are leading the way in transforming services for children and families. We currently have teams of dedicated and talented Specialist Community Public Health Practitioners who are out in communities pioneering a new, holistic, and inclusive approach to 0-19 Children’s Universal and Early Intervention services.

As a Super Training Hub, we strive for excellence in learning and innovation in practice and delivery of safe, quality, and compassionate care. We have strong partnerships with London Education Institutes which enable us to celebrate Health Visiting and School Nursing practice.

To ensure all our student SCPHN practitioners receive the best possible learning environment NELFT have a robust model of learning practice with dedicated Practice assessors and practice supervisors.

Working for our organisation

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.  All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

 

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

We continue to encourage all staff to ensure that they have been double vaccinated and received their booster. We recognise that taking the vaccine provides the best defence against COVID 19 for our patients, our staff and their families.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We offer a robust continuous professional development plan equipping practitioners for their role, paving the way for a tailored career progression training programme.

We offer a very enabling preceptorship programme, taking on board the Institute of Health Visiting and School Nursing principles, which supports clinical governance through the process of developing a culture of ‘lifelong learning’ and good employment practices, as well as varying forms of supervision inclusive of Clinical, Safeguarding and Restorative Supervision.

 

Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Course Applications:

NELFT is delighted to invite applicants who are suitably qualified nurses to undertake the above course. Candidates must hold:

  • Current NMC Registration for nursing or midwifery
  • Evidence of applying for NMC registration and confirmed NMC registration within 2 months of the start date.
  • The course will be at level 7 and candidates will require a 2:2 or evidence of study at L7.
  • Students will have the course paid for will receive a salary up to mid-point Band 5 (dependant on NHS experience) Internal candidates to contact [email protected]  for further information.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Supporting statement must demonstrate some knowledge and understanding of the Health visitor/School nursing role – depending upon their level of first registration experience how they articulate this may vary but we are looking to see that they have engaged with some research of the role over and above having a ‘passion for working with children’. Some of understanding the broader context of public health and transferrable skills should be evident
