Thoracic Specialist Nurse - Interventional Bronchoscopy

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated nurse to join our bronchoscopy unit. 

This is a newly created role in which  you will manage and  assist with CT lung biopsies as well as other Interventional procedures in the lung cancer service including  Photodynamic therapy (PDT),  where you will be the named nurse providing personalized care for the patient which  is exclusive to  Wythenshawe hospital,  across the  whole of the UK. 

The Bronchoscopy Unit is a state-of-the-art bronchoscopy unit based at the North West lung center. Providing specialist facilities for patients from across the Northwest. We offer high tech minimally invasive fiberoptic and ultrasound investigations to diagnose, stage, treat and research conditions of the respiratory system.

The unit houses three dedicated procedural rooms and supports the centers general and specialist services performing over 3,000 procedures annually.

 

Main duties of the job

You will need to be flexible, a team player, and be able demonstrate a commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice.

Be able to cope under pressure in emergency situations. 

As part of the team, you will play an integral role in supporting lung cancer patients throughout their cancer journey promoting clinical excellence and the ongoing development of the service.

The post holder will be an integral part of the development and updating of standard operating procedures and the day to say running of the interventional bronchoscopy service.

Education/Qulifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse
  • Evidence of relevant post qualification study at postgraduate level or equivalent knowledge
  • Teaching/mentor qualification

experience

Essential criteria
  • Nurse - minimum 2 years at Band 5 in the relevant thoracic setting
  • Minimum of 12 months experience in a bronchoscopy unit
  • Evidence of working independently
  • Participating in audit/patient surveys
  • Evidence of managing within a clinical area
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary team.
  • Awareness of National and Local targets including policies and procedure for both MFT and community services in relation to working practices
  • Evidence of relevant CPD
  • Awareness of the Clinical Governance agenda
Desirable criteria
  • Band 6 experence
