Job overview

The Acute Intensive Care Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital is looking to appoint enthusiastic motivated Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse to support our expanding nursing team.

The unit provides Level 2 and Level 3 care in a mixed 19 bed critical care unit to over 900 patients per year, and provides care to a wide range of specialties which include: Burns, Thoracic Surgery, General Surgery, ENT, Max Fax, Ortho-plastics, Respiratory,  orthopedics, Cardiology and Urology.

 We are seeking to recruit an energetic, enthusiastic and experienced nurse to provide high standards of care to patients. The successful candidate will be welcomed into our friendly, forward thinking and dynamic team. 

Main duties of the job

Candidates must be team focused, hardworking, and committed to delivering safe high quality care. We require candidates to help us to develop our services, be able to demonstrate their ability to lead a team of nurses, support the management of the unit and support staff within the challenging critical care environment.

Successful candidates require good post registration experience most of which should be within Adult Critical Care, together with a relevant Critical Care qualification. All applicants should be currently working in Critical Care.

Please note the post is subject to 24hrs internal rotation.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Intensive care qualification, i.e. ENB 100 or equivalent
  • Demonstrates professional development by other means
Desirable criteria
  • ALS/ILS/EMSB certificate
  • Additional course aligned to critical care, e.g. Anaesthetic, CCU, Renal, etc
  • Teaching / Mentorship qualification

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Can provide evidence of being aware of current developments relating to clinical specialism.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The development of leadership qualities and organisational skills
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Ability to motivate one’s self and others
  • Demonstrates commitment towards personal professional development, and the development of others
  • Can provide leadership and supervision of a team of nurses, e.g. within a sphere of the unit
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literacy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Considerable post registration experience the majority of which should be in Critical care
  • Currently work in Critical Care
  • Experience of professional leadership
