Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 (3 months secondment) Nurse Practitioner on Brooke Treatment Unit (BTU).

BTU is a specialist fast paced day case, nurse Led infusion and investigation Unit, looking after a large group of specialities helping manage chronic conditions and aid in the diagnosis of neurological conditions. It cares for patients’ conditions from multi-specialities i.e., Neurology, Gastroenterology, etc and provides specialist clinics with Specialist nurses clinics. 

BTU consists of 17 chairs between 2 Units and has 4 side rooms. Staff work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team. It is a great Unit to work on and gives people a pre-cursor to developing a career.

You will be supported within the role with the training required. The Unit also offers drug specific training from specialist nurses, for specialist drugs such as Cyclophosphamide, Immunoglobulins, Tysabri, Infliximab, only to name a few.

You will have a preceptorship and supernumerary period with an allocated Mentor/ Preceptor to support you while you are getting used to the environment, patient type and infusions that we do. You will be given time to attend your training. The Trust offers leadership programmes for further career progression opportunities.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated Nurse with at least 3 years’ experience to join the team on BTU.  You will need to ensure that as well as providing clinical leadership and taking responsibility for direct staff management and the running of the Unit, you can meet deadlines, the skills and have desire to manage care within budget.

As a deputy to the Ward Manager, you must be able to deliver the same standards of care and support the team and maintain standards. You should also be politically aware and be able to create vision for the team, and influence change in the clinical area and demonstrate evidence of how you have met goals in your current role. The role is pressured at times, and you will need to be proactive.

You will also be expected to provide evidence of how your leadership skills have positively affected team dynamics and improved clinical standards within your current role also. You must be able to motivate staff to achieve high standards and possess excellent communication skills to ensure that the aims of the organisation are achieved.

Duties include:

  • Provide leadership, support, and guidance to staff in monitoring the planning delivery and evaluation of individualised care and assessing people’s health and well-being needs.
  • Managing different speciality infusions and ensuring they are administered as per policy and safely on the unit.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, complaints, reporting them to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.     

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months.                                                                                                                            

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely.
