Salford Royal Hospital is part of the Greater Manchester Kidney Care Network, providing Renal Services to patients living in the North & West Sector of Greater Manchester.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Division of Tertiary Medicine for a Unit Manager on the Wigan Renal Unit. We would like to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual who is passionate about delivering high quality patient care.

You must possess excellent communication skills, strong leadership and have the ability to influence change, together with the skills necessary to deliver against the Trusts key performance targets. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and willing to go the extra mile to enhance the patient experience are essential for the post.

Main duties of the job

Wigan renal unit comprises an 18 bedded dialysis unit, alongside a small Outpatients department. It is located within Boston House Medical Centre, Frog Lane, Wigan. 

The successful candidate will have an extensive nursing background. Renal experience is desirable but not essential. Clinical support is provided by the Consultant Body & Senior Nursing Team with a dedicated mentor & opportunities for personal and clinical development.

You will work closely with the Renal Consultants, Renal Matron, Lead Nurse for Renal Services and the Assistant Director of Nursing for Renal and Tertiary Medicine.

The role involves collaborative working with colleagues throughout renal services and opportunities to network with colleagues within the wider division of Tertiary Medicine.

Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.     

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months.                                                                                                                            

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. Qualifications & Registration

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration
  • 1st Degree level studies or equivalent portfolio of evidence
Desirable criteria
  • Management /leadership qualification
  • Have achieved or be working towards Masters level qualification
  • Non-Medical Prescriber Qualification under NMC Criteria
  • Post Basic Qualification In Renal Nursing
  • Evidence of working at Level 7 / towards Masters Qualification

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of clinical and managerial expertise and knowledge acquired through CPD and experience
  • Evidence of involvement in the development of protocols and clinical audit
  • Two years post registration plus 2 years’ experience Nursing at a senior level
  • Evidence of proactive involvement in the mentorship and development of nurses and nursing practice
  • Effective communicator able to communicate complex and sensitive information
