Qualified Nurse - Surgical Admissions Lounge
Band 5
Our new Northern Care Alliance NHS Group unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.
The Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites which make up four new Care Organisations – Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester, Oldham and Salford. Using our mantra of ‘Saving lives, Improving lives’, the aim is for our Care Organisations to work closely with the communities they serve to deliver safe, high quality and reliable care, which are trusted, connected and pioneering.
Our Care Organisations are designed to operate within our group arrangement of hospitals, community and healthcare services which bring together over 17,000 staff and the services of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Our size and geographical reach means we are creating an environment each individual will be inspired and empowered by to be the best they can be. This is a really exciting time to join our new team.
The area is highly specialised and split into 7 distinct areas, these being the ward, anaesthetics, theatre, recovery, paediatric, surgical admissions lounge and the injection centre.
The Day Surgery Unit and Surgical Admissions Lounge have now merged, we work over 3 areas on 2 levels. On level 3 there are 2 sides, a 6 bedded and an 8 bedded unit, on level 1 there is a 19 bedded unit.
Staff rotate onto the areas each day and staff are allocated at the safety huddle happens each morning at 7 am.
The paediatric areas for which we have lists every Tuesday and Friday is staffed by our paediatric nurses with support from our others within the staff team.
Day Surgery was set up for patients who meet the criteria for Day Surgery. Patients are admitted throughout the day and go home same day. We also have long day case recovery patients who are with us for about 4-6 hours post operatively. Surgical Admission is patients who have allocated beds on wards to go to post operatively. The types of surgery our patients have are: Gynaecology, Orthopaedic, Trauma, General Surgery which includes Gastrointestinal/Colorectal Surgery, Urology, Dental, and ENT; we also have Spinal, Neurology, and Pain Management. We also take patients from Angio and Radiology.
Patients are admitted from 07:00hrs and are discharged from the unit by 21:30hrs. If patients’ should require an overnight stay, a bed will be organised for them on another ward, we work closely with the bed managers to arrange.
