Job overview
The Wigan Adult ADHD Team are looking to recruit a Clinical Nurse Specialist (NMP) to a full time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position to join our specialist team.
The service is a 9-5 service based at Claire House in Wigan and we have clinics based in Wigan and Leigh. Travel across the borough will be required to support this clinic offer and increase the service's accessibility.
The successful applicant will join a friendly and supportive team and be supported by senior clinicians who will provide clinical supervision and development opportunities within the specialist team.
The opportunity for further professional development including specialist ADHD diagnostic and assessment training and pharmacological treatment of adults with ADHD training will be considered with the successful applicant. Although specialist knowledge and experience of ADHD is desirable it is not essential.
Main duties of the job
- Completing routine reviews of patients with a confirmed ADHD diagnosis and plan clinical care accordingly.
- Assessing the efficacy of treatment as well as completing physical health observations
- Completing a clinical triage of referrals received in to the service to determine suitability for assessment
- Attending the MDT to ensure we provide a collaborative approach whilst focusing on patient care
- Liaison with other agencies involved in a service users care to ensure effective communication leading to a comprehensive and integrated package of care
- To supervise and provide support to the Band 6 nurse and students
- To act as an advocate to facilitate the views and choices expressed by our patients
- Contribute to the specialist ADHD diagnostic assessment process for adults over 18 years
- To provide Clinical Specialist input into the ADHD service

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Up to date Professional Registration (to be maintained), on the appropriate part of the NMC register and hold a current NMC registration.
- Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) Qualification.
- Significant experience working within mental health.
- Assessor/Mentorship Training.
Desirable criteria
- Post registration training in relevant field.
- Leadership/Management training.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with service users with complex care needs requiring higher levels of expertise.
- Experience of mentorship and supervision and coordination of staff.
- Experience of working in a multi-agency framework.
- Demonstrate a contribution to change management process.
- Demonstrate experience of problem-solving approaches.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of diagnosis, treatment, and management for ADHD/neurological conditions
- Experience of positive leadership
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of mentoring students
- Ability to participate in service development processes at a strategic level.
- Detailed knowledge and ability to apply and teach risk management.
- Knowledge of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Procedures.
- Up to date clinical knowledge including risk assessment, dual diagnosis and complex health and social care needs.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding on the Mental Health Act, MCA, and legal aspects of Mental Health Care.
