Deputy Ward Manager

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate for a  Deputy Ward Manager on ward 3. This position is for a Band 6 at 37.5 hours per week. 

The individual should have extensive oncology experience. Be able to demonstrate good leadership skills. The candidate must have oncology and a mentorship qualification. You would also be required to carry out extended clinical skills.

We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals with excellent organisation, communication skills and ability to lead and drive change. The post holder will be supporting staff and patients within an Inpatient environment and play a major role in supporting the ward manager in future nursing developments.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 Deputy ward manager on the ward, you must be able to take charge of the ward, support junior members of the team and demonstrate leadership skills within the clinical environment. Using advanced skills and oncology knowledge, be able to work alongside and in place of the Ward Manager when required, ensuring safety of our patients and that a high level of care is delivered and maintained.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st level Nurse (RGN) with UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Evidence of consistent professional and educational development
  • BSc. Nursing, Health or management related studies or above or equivalent, or evidence of ability to work at that level
  • ENB 998 or equivalent teaching/mentorship course
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel Recognised Management Qualification or relevant management experience
  • Recognized Management Qualification or relevant management experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the political and strategic health agendas including the impact of such at operational level
  • Innovative and enthusiastic
  • High level negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to cultivate positive relationships with teams to enable effective communication at times of significant operational pressure
