UK nationals or other persons with a right of abode have an eligible residency status if they have been ordinarily resident in the UK or the British Overseas Territories, or the Crown Dependencies (Channel Islands and Isle of Man) for at least the previous 3 years on the first day of the apprenticeship.

A post has arisen within our Trauma & Orthopaedic directorate for an Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and hard-working member of staff to join our Upper Limb team.   The post holder will provide specialised orthopaedic care within the hospital setting for patients with chronic and acute orthopaedic conditions.

Please note that the salary for this post is conditional.  Where the post holder does not hold the appropriate Non-Medical prescribing and Surgical First Assistant qualifications the commencing salary will be Band 6, with the expectation that the post holder will work towards these qualifications over a specified period of two years or less.  Upon attainment of both qualifications salary will be uplifted to Band 7.

The post holder will undertake follow-up clinics as part of the Consultant team and nurse led follow-up clinics for selected patient groups, see new patients and present complex cases to the supervising Orthopaedic Consultant, undertake the role of Surgical First Assistant in the operating theatre and undertake the role of Non-Medical Prescriber, within national and trust guidelines.

The post requires an appropriately qualified and experienced registered nurse to perform the range of duties outlined above. The individual will act as a valuable resource within the multi-professional team. The individual will monitor the patient pathway in relation to the care and management of orthopaedic patients and be in a position to influence the work of other professional groups. They will work collaboratively with other health care professionals in primary and secondary care to ensure a high quality easily accessible service for all orthopaedic patients.

The successful applicant should have significant and relevant recent experience at Band 5 level within the speciality of Trauma and Orthopaedics and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, acting as a role model to other staff. The successful applicant is expected to be flexible and be able to work cross site to deadlines. The working hours are currently Monday to Friday, however there may be a need in the future to work some evenings and weekends.

  • Significant and relevant recent experience at Band 5 level within the speciality of Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development activity
  • Holds Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or willing to work towards
  • Holds Surgical First Assistant qualification or willing to work towards
  • Registered nurse with current registration

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise workload

  • Strong IT skills, including the ability to use spreadsheets, databases and word processing packages
