Job overview

Suffolk Rehabilitation and Recovery Service (SRRS) is a Community Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit, supporting individuals with severe and enduring mental illness with the long-term focus of establishing service users in the community setting and preventing relapse. We are currently the only mental health rehabilitation setting within Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust.

The SRRS team are committed to empowering individuals on the recovery pathway - this could be assisting individuals with enduring mental health conditions or helping a newly diagnosed individual regain the living skills and provide a foundation to develop preventing future admissions. We are service user lead, and put person centred care at the forefront of what we do.

At SRRS we have a 10 bedded unit offering 24-hour support. Our support includes assessment of individuals capabilities, with regards to planned daily living activities and assessments based on the recovery model which endeavours to assist a move on to independent, or further supported accommodation.

We would support and welcome any Registered Mental Health Nurses, We support and encourage development and career progression. We especially welcome nurses with an interest in holistic health care and humanistic principles of nursing.

There is a comprehensive variety of mandatory training in-house.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 Mental Health Nurse you will be responsible for the day to day running of shifts, medicine management, attending MDTs, ward reviews, liaising with other agencies, and primarily supporting service users with their recovery journey. You will have named nurse responsibility and be expected to work alongside your named patient to support their recovery goals, with the support of the team around you.

SRRS is currently in an exciting phase of development to improve the quality                       and efficiency of the service. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated and caring individual who has a strong desire to work with service users in a recovery focused manner. We support newly qualified Nurses/practitioners to attend the Newly Qualified Academy as part of preceptor-ship.

At SRRS you will have the opportunity to work independently, but we come together by sharing our knowledge learnt and respecting each other by communicating effectively. We encourage staff to develop within lead and link roles within a particular area of interest, just let the SRRS team know which areas you are invested in, and we can support you. The team at SRRS encourage an open forum for our staff to problem solve and make changes to enhance the patient experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Band 5 Mental Health Nurse you will be responsible for the day to day running of shifts, medicine management, attending MDTs, ward reviews, liaising with other agencies, and primarily supporting service users with their recovery journey. You will have named nurse responsibility and be expected to work alongside your named patient to support their recovery goals, with the support of the team around you. You will be responsible for appropriate time keeping, taking handovers, reporting and identifying any risks, improvements or changes in relation to the individuals you suppotr. You will be expected to work as part of a team, taking part in team meetings, safety huddles, and training. You will have responsibility in relation to effective and best practice regarding safe management of medications, and holding the medications keys. Your role will include up to date record keeping, care planning, recovery planning, and information sharing where appropriate. You will also get to spend 1:1 time with the individuals we support, and at times their families and carers, in working collaboratively to develop a recovery pathway.
