Antenatal Clinic Team Leader & Public Health Specialist Midwife

Job overview

The Antenatal Clinic Team Leader will coordinate and manage safe and efficient flow through the antenatal clinic and obstetric ultrasound services. This will include the supervision of staff, teaching of students, promoting and monitoring of safe and effective clinical practice.

You will coordinate and manage a high standard of care within the antenatal clinic providing expert knowledge of referral for high risk obstetric care as well as supporting the continuity of care for low risk out of area women. Identify the needs of the local population and develop targeted support as required to improve access to services.

A key part of the role is clinic allocation, deployment and support of staff to maintain the skills, knowledge and attitude that drive quality improvement. They will also be involved in day-to-day clinical activity.

Provide clinical leadership with a focus on the development and promotion of Healthy Lifestyles and Public Health for women and families during pregnancy and the postnatal period in line with local and national benchmarks.

Lead the development of the service in the setting, implementing, and monitoring of healthy lifestyles for women and families that reflects the standards pertinent to public health and the prevention of long-term morbidity and mortality.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with midwifery colleagues, primary care teams and other key stakeholders and agencies to develop midwifery services in line with Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and national strategies.

The women and their families' experience of our services will be dependent on high quality, effective and customer focused care and the post holder will ensure that the care provided is in keeping with the Trust vision, values and behaviours.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife with NMC
  • Degree level qualification
  • Mentor preparation course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post graduate studies related to midwifery

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a qualified midwife with recent experience of antenatal care
  • Evidence of service or quality improvement involvement
  • Proven recent leadership and management skills
  • Experience of promoting and developing healthy lifestyles
  • Evidence of knowledge around the priority areas of the public health agenda
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in complaints management
  • Experience of the clinical audit process and procedures
