Job overview

We are seeking highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic Senior Clinical  Endoscopist to lead our developing team of Clinical  Endoscopists and assist in the continued development of the service.

The postholder will provide a clinical and leadership role in our  endoscopy service for patients who are undergoing assessment and investigation for gastrointestinal disease.

You will be responsible for your own patient case load and work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to provide clinically effective and efficient care and treatment.

You will provide clinical leadership and have direct line management responsibility for our team of Clinical Endoscopists 

You will also be an accredited Bowel Cancer Screener (or currently working towards accreditation).

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate should be;

  • A fully trained Clinical Endoscopist able to complete Lower GI Endoscopic examinations and procedures.
  • Be an Independent non-Medical Prescriber.
  • An accredited Bowel Cancer Screener (or currently working towards accreditation).
  • Able to work in an autonomous and unsupervised capacity and have strong leadership skills.
  • Able perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures and follow agreed protocols.
  • Ensuring that the unit provides quality standards that meet Joint Advisory Group (JAG) requirements and the quality standards outlined in the Global rating Scale (GRS)
  • A leader to our team of  Clinical Endoscopists across three different sites

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 4 years post registration practice or significant experience in a senior nursing post in endoscopy
  • Minimum of 2 years* recent experience working as a nurse Endoscopist in a hospital setting - *Consideration would be given to any applicant who can demonstrate extensive expertise and experience gained in less time
  • Experience of team management
  • Experience of teaching
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Achievement of high quality patient care through evidence based practice
Desirable criteria
  • Line management experience
  • Understanding of wide ranging NHS policy, initiatives, national service frameworks etc in delivering patient centred care
  • Budget awareness
  • Experience of mentoring & assessing
  • Experience of research
  • Management of change

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with the NMC (level 1 or level 2)
  • Bowel Cancer Screening Accreditation
  • JAG accredited qualification for endoscopists role- Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy and Sigmoidoscopy (note: colonoscopy is essential) JAG accredited qualification for endoscopists role- Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy and Sigmoidoscopy (note: colonoscopy is essential)
  • Independent Nurse Prescribing Qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • JETS accredited endoscopist
Desirable criteria
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant subject
  • Teaching qualification
  • Skilled trainer, mentor, supervisor or coach
  • IT/database qualification
  • Hold or be working towards a master’s degree
  • Train the trainer JETS course
