Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Governance Team as a Divisional Quality and Safety Nurse., to work alongside and support the Divisional Quality & Safety Lead in providing a high quality service to all key stakeholders and users across the organisation. Deputising at meetings where appropriate and working alongside other governance, quality & safety nurses within the Medicine Division.

We are looking to appoint a credible, dynamic and motivated individual with excellent communication & interpersonal skills.

Working for our organisation

Medicine division employs 2800 staff across both City and QMC campuses.  We have a wide range of specialties from the emergency department to cardiac surgery. We also have Hospital 24 . Within the urgent and emergency care directorate there is DREEAM which is the department of research and education for emergency, acute med and major trauma.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre, caring for a population of 4.5million. Operating 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide specialist advice to the ward areas regarding legislation, guidance and the regulatory framework relevant to the management of clinical risk and to improving clinical standards and patient safety.  

To lead on the identification of risks associated within specialities; develop and implement action plans, attend local / speciality and divisional meetings, reporting progress on an ongoing basis.

To provide guidance and support in the implementation of clinical standards (quality) initiatives in line with the Trust’s clinical risk management and Health and safety framework.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current level one NMC registration or equivalent HCPC registration
  • Evidence of academic learning at Level 3 or equivalent
  • Appropriate Teaching & Assessing Qualification
  • Possession of NMC Mentoring Course
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Introductory Management/ Leadership course –e.g. Leo/ Franklin Covey
  • Degree in health / nursing related studies or equivalent level of study
Desirable criteria
  • Masters in health / nursing related Studies
  • Formal leadership and management training / course
  • Research training/experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post registration experience with relevant experience in specialities
  • Evidence of change management in nursing, leading new ways of working.
  • Evidence of experience in relation to risk assessments, incident reviews, thematic reviews and action planning.
  • Evidence of involvement and leading project work
  • Evidence of proficiency in the delivery of research/ evidence based care.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of audit / research work within the clinical area
  • Evidence of writing policies or guidance
  • Work published or submitted for publication
  • Speaking at conferences

Communication & relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of effective advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present and receive complex information within the multi professional team.
  • Evidence of computer literacy & IT skills including creating presentations, reports and databases.
  • Evidence of production of timely, accurate written/electronic records, documents and reports.
  • Evidence of ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to staff.
  • Evidence of staff appraisal & performance management of staff
