An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead and manage our medical emergency pathway within the CAS division (Cancer and Associated Specialities).

This post is based on our Specialist Receiving Unit (SRU)   The pathway is evolving whilst we forge new paths to enhance patient experience and ensure patients are treating in the most appropriate place and correct speciality.

It is an incredibly exciting time to join the speciality and we welcome applications from candidates who thrive in a fast paced environment and who enjoy being challenged to think creatively and lead positive change.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator, an innovative leader and committed to maintaining quality standards for patients.

You will be expected to provide and oversee high quality direct nursing care including risk assessing of patients in a timely manner to show that excellent care is provided, as evidenced by our nursing Tendable data. 

Monitor and support the clinical teams with pressure ulcer, falls and infection rapid learning reviews.

Ability to respond to, prioritise and analyse complex problems/situations.

Ability to generate and present reports and documents.

Budget management.

Demonstrate an ability to recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations and the ability to prioritise own workload.

Deal effectively with clinical issues within defined procedures/guidelines and support colleagues, patients and relatives/carers in distressing circumstances.

Show Management/leadership and evidence of an ability to mentor with a continuing professional development/ reflective profile.

Ability to manage the clinical area or ward efficiently and effectively.

Supervision of non-registered staff, pre-registration and post basic students.

Demonstrate the personal development of members within a team.

Can formulate short and long term objectives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be expected to be an effective leader and role model, providing direct clinical care as well as leading and developing standards and practices within the unit. You should have the ability to motivate and inspire your team ensuring a collaborative approach to the delivery of excellent nursing care.

You will be working alongside other staff members to maximise inpatient activity, considering the aspects of capacity and flow. The optimisation of this unit will aid wider recovery and restoration work, within the specialities.

An understanding of patient confidentiality and the ability to prioritise workloads in view of changing priorities are essential. The position is also responsible for the general clerical duties with the department.
