Job overview

We are  looking for a dynamic nurse who would like to develop their skills and join the specialist asthma nursing team. The post involves specialist nursing advice, education and support for ward staff and patients. Are you are enthusiastic, well-motivated and would like the opportunity to develop your skills further by working alongside the already established team of specialist nurses to ensure provision of excellent forward thinking care is delivered.

You will be working at City campus attending patients on the ward and in a clinic setting. In accordance with our strategy of excellence, you must be a dedicated team player, and possess excellent interpersonal and organisation skills. A minimum of 12 months experience within the respiratory service is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As part of joining the asthma nurse specialist team you will be involved with both outpatients and inpatients working within clinics settings and visiting respiratory wards to review patients. Working closely as part of an MDT  alongside the community teams and other trusts.  You will be responsible for both collaborative and autonomous working giving advanced asthma treatments to patients.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good organisational skills
  • Relevant post-basic study e.g. specialist pathway
  • Have a suitable Teaching & Assessing Qualification
  • Possession of a Mentoring Course
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • NURSING DEGREE

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 12 months experience as a Band 5 nurse.
  • Supervision of non-registered staff, pre-registration and post basic students
  • Evidence of ability to mentor
  • Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff.
  • Ability to manage the clinical area or ward efficiently and effectively
Desirable criteria
  • Recent or current experience within respiratory

Physical skills

Essential criteria
  • Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties
  • Dexterity and accuracy in undertaking clinical skills, use of equipment and documentation
  • Competent and capable of using medical equipment
  • Able to undertake patient manual handling maneuvers and non-patient manual handling maneuvers
