Job overview

To provide and maintain the highest possible standards of nursing care within the Endoscopy Department.

  • Assess, monitor and support patients undergoing endoscopy
  • Assist the endoscopist to undertake diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Communicate effectively with patients to prepare them for procedures and provide accurate information regarding diagnosis and aftercare

Main duties of the job

We are a Centre for Excellence in diagnostic and cutting-edge therapeutic endoscopy, with ongoing research, development and expansion within our department.  We have 6 procedure rooms, and provide additional support to theatres, ED and the Children’s hospital.

We’re looking for dynamic staff who want to work in a team that provides high-quality compassionate care, and can demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.  We are happy to consider newly-qualified nurses as well as nurses without endoscopy experience but who  are looking for a new  clinical direction.

We can offer you a training program where you will be fully supported by our Clinical Education Team and other senior staff during for  a 2 month  supernumerary period, so you  can reach your level of competence to work independently as an Endoscopy Nurse in diagnostics.   There is also opportunities for development  in therapeutic procedures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide and maintain the highest possible standards of nursing care within the Endoscopy Department.

  • Assess, monitor and support patients undergoing endoscopy
  • Assist the endoscopist to undertake diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Communicate effectively with patients to prepare them for procedures and provide accurate information regarding diagnosis and aftercare
  • Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Ensure safe recovery post procedure, monitor the patient to ensure early identification of post endoscopic complications.
  • Demonstrate technical competence and clinical effectiveness in assisting with endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and working correctly
  • Complete or be working towards Endoscopy and Trust competencies within a time frame agreed with Sister and with the support of a named mentor.
