Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join mental health services in Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB) within Older Persons Mental Health Services (OPMHS).

We are currently seeking to recruit a highly motivated Registered Nurse to work on for the Powys bank. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, committed and innovative person to join our specialized team. You will carry out assessment of needs on the OPMH unit for people who present with functional and/or organic problems. You will work alongside the ward team  to provide plans of appropriate therapies and activities to aid and approve functioning.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will work closely with the clinical lead, Ward Manager and local clinical teams. Operational management will be provided by the Ward Manager and professional accountability will be ensured through regular supervision with the clinical lead. We care for our patients 7 days a week, 24 hours a day so you will need to have the flexibility to take part in a full shift system including nights, bank holidays and weekend working.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work alongside the in-patient team, helping to deliver excellent, evidence-based care. Responsibilities include: in-patient care co-ordination,  assessment of mental health, holistic risk assessment, planning and delivery of care, along with facilitating discharge planning.

  • Able to meet the travel requirements of the post
