Job overview

We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our team, at Jessop Wing, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, as our new Head of Midwifery.

This is an exciting opportunity to compassionately lead and inspire a dedicated maternity service, who are committed to a culture of safety and continuous service improvement.

Main duties of the job

Have oversight responsibility for OGN services, in particular clinical governance, and safety issues, providing professional and line management support to the matrons.

Ensure workforce tools are utilised to embed safe and effective staffing models across the service and clinical areas supporting the matrons to deliver this.

Be responsible for maintaining clinical standards, benchmarking using Clinical Governance Frameworks and audit to ensure high quality care is provided and give assurance to the maternity directorate senior management team.

Provide visible clinical and professional leadership for maternity working in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team.

Ensure National A- EQUIP, Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) model is well established and effective.

Take the lead for safeguarding within Maternity Services.

  • Current NMC registration
  • Leadership Qualification

Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of clinical midwifery experience acquired through significant recent practice at a senior leadership level.
  • Evidence of Local Maternity & Neonatal System (LMNS) collaborative working
  • Proven record of leading and effectively managing change across organisations
  • Evidence of leadership development
Desirable criteria
  • Project management experience
  • Published in professional journals
  • Presentations at local regional and national events
  • Evidence of contribution to original research
  • Contribution to scholarly activities and publications

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Expert knowledge of Midwifery and Safeguarding.
  • Sound knowledge of NHS agenda and National Policy , and an understanding how this translates to Maternity and Neonatal Services.
  • Highly developed motivational skills and strong commitment to staff involvement and empowerment
