An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the existing Urology Specialist Nursing team at Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust.  Based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, the GHNFT Urology service works closely with other local NHS Trusts and partners in primary care, to deliver out-patient based services and treatments for patients from across the local community.  Sitting within the Surgical Business Unit, the Urology team are friendly, supportive and are committed to ensuring the delivery of excellent patient care to patients and their families / carers.  

We are seeking to appoint a flexible, highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our Specialist Nursing Team. Working alongside the existing nurse specialists and multi-disciplinary team, the successful applicant will be expected to provide specialist advice, care and support to patients referred to the Urology service with either suspected or confirmed genito-urinary cancers, along with a range of other urological problems.  An interest in urinary continence/painful bladder would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be required to excellent communication and organisational skills in order to maximise patient experience and ensure high quality patient focused outcomes. Key elements of this role are to be able to work collaboratively and effectively with key stakeholders within the multi-disciplinary team, whilst utilising clinical skills and professional judgement to manage the patient pathway.  The successful post holder will be supervised by the band 7 nursing team but will also be expected to work autonomously and manage their own clinical caseload of patients following successful completion of clinical competencies after an agreed probationary / supervisory period. The post will also involve working closely with colleagues from other Trusts, health care professionals and 3^rd sector partnership organisations locally, regionally and nationally.
