Job overview

A really exciting opportunity has arisen in the Eastbourne Mental Health Liaison Team.  In order that we can provide an enhanced 24 hour service we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, caring and creative Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse to work as part of Mental Health Liaison Team over the weekends. The role will involve working with people who have been referred to the Mental health liaison team via A&E, Blue Light, Street Triage, SMHL and our third sector partner Staying Well. It also involves working with people who are inpatients at the Eastbourne District General Hospital and are experiencing a mental health crisis and require our support. 

 

Main duties of the job

This post is to cover the service over the weekend, Saturday and Sunday. 

You will need to be flexible and adaptable as modern mental health services are constantly changing in response to best practice. You will be joining a committed and dynamic team and will be fully supported and empowered to make a difference to creatively develop many new ways of working, towards building safe and responsive quality mental health services fit for the future.

You will be required to have strong assessment, communication and people skills and demonstrate a desire and ability to meet community service demands in an ever changing landscape.

This post offers the Trust's £4,000 Incentive for band 5-7 Nurses & Practitioners, as well as a relocation package up to a maximum of £8,000 (subject to terms and conditions).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a band 6 nurse you will be required to complete assessments for patients that have attended A&E or adjoining wards in the District General Hospital 

The role also involves conducting reviews of patients who have already been assessed  and are in the District General Hospital . They may still be receiving treatment for their physical health whilst on the MHLT caseload. 

Write and implement care plans in collaboration with the patient. 

Accompany Dr's to assessments and complete the MHLT documentation.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Nurse and/or degree level qualification and training in addictions/substance misuse

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience in a band 5 (or equivalent) position
  • Experience of working within an appropriate care setting or an ability to demonstrate that skills and knowledge are transferable across specialities
  • Knowledge of the MHA (1983/2007)
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and DOL’s
  • A working knowledge of a range of therapeutic assessment tools and their application to the Liaison service caseload
