Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a band 6 community mental health nurse (RMN, full-time or part-time) within the Enhanced Duty team of the Specialist Older Mental Health Service (SOAMHS) based at Mill View Hospital in Hove. The operating hours of the service are 9am to 5pm Monday to Sunday. There may be a requirement to work out of hours and at weekends on a rota system for which enhancements will be paid. The enhanced duty team offer intensive assessment and support to older adults with mental health needs. It is a multi-disciplinary team and is part of the wider SOAMHS service. 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for completing mental health assessments, care and risk planning for clients referred to our service. The team carry a joint caseload and work collaboratively with partner agencies, VSCE and families/ carers.  It would be advantageous if applicants have previous experience of working in the community and in various settings within mental health.

This post offers the Trust's £4,000 Incentive for band 5-7 Nurses & Practitioners, as well as a relocation package up to a maximum of £8,000 (subject to terms and conditions).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You would be expected to demonstrate good leadership qualities, and have a high level of clinical skill. You will also be expected to be knowledgeable about key performance indicators and the expectation that these are achieved for our clients.  You will receive regular supervision and have opportunities for ongoing development and training.

Community Mental Health Services in Brighton & Hove has a well-established Section 75 (S.75) agreement in place. This agreement contributes to the improvement in mental health and wellbeing and results in easier access to a more responsive mental health service. Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Brighton and Hove City Council delegate tasks to each organisation to ensure a joined-up health and social care offer to those that use our services. Relevant training and support will be provided when acting on behalf of the other organisation and it also means that you're able to access a number of other training, learning and development opportunities from both organisations.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current registration [mental health/LD/Adult], appropriate to the job role
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post qualifying experience in the relevant care group
  • Experience of working alongside people with complex health problems in the designated care group
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of providing a range of clinical interventions to people in the designated care group with a variety of health problems
  • Experience of working consultatively with professionals
  • Experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments
  • Experience of partnership working within and across various statutory and non statutory teams and agencies
  • Experience of working within the CPA process
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Previous experience of working in the community
