Job overview

Previous applicants need not apply

The Women’s Health Unit here at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are delighted to offer the opportunity for an experienced nurse with a specialised interest in  gynaecology to train as a Nurse Colposcopist.

The cervical screening programme aims to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer and colposcopy forms part of that programme in assessing and  managing women with persistent HPV, low grade, high grade and ? invasive cervical smears. The department also assesses people with a cervix who may have lesions or symptoms which are suspicious for cervical cancer on a two week wait referral pathway.

We have a wonderful opportunity to join as a trainee within our team and make a real difference to the well being of women accessing Colposcopy Services.

Main duties of the job

The trainee will be expected to join the BSCCP and embark on their national training programme, where they will work through a period of direct , then indirect supervision, assessment and then OSCE exam to become an Accredited Colposcopist. The trainee will be fully supported by our dedicated team of Colposcopists and wider women’s health team as you progress through the programme to become an independent practitioner.

Our Women’s Health Unit and Gynaecology Outpatient department is dedicated to working with leading evidence based research and guidance to provide clinical excellence in the care provided to the patients accessing our services.

Working for our organisation

Our People Charter outlines the behaviours we can expect from one another and what you can expect from Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust:

  • We value people
  • We are one team
  • We care

We’re keen to meet people who share these values and are passionate about delivering the highest quality of care to our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Colposcopy is based within The Women’s Health Unit  where a number of out-patient clinics provide person centred care for women with a wide variety of gynaecological needs. These clinics include urogynaecology, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, and the termination of pregnancy service. The gynaecology outpatient department is also attached to the unit and nursing care rotates throughout the two departments.

Although usual hours of work for the women’s health unit are from Monday to Friday 08:00- 17:30 (times dependent on clinical sessions allocated) there may be occasional requirement for weekend and evening clinical sessions.

Here at Bradford we are a Trust with a real sense of ‘team’ and are immensely proud of our passionate, dedicated and highly skilled nurses. We offer many opportunities for career development and progression and are renowned for our exemplary, multidisciplinary training packages. We’re a teaching hospital trust at the forefront of research, education and development, with a state-of-the-art simulation and skills training centre on site.
