Job overview

HMP Berwyn is a category C local training prison with a remand function serving courts in North Wales with a capacity of 2000 men.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) provides a dedicated health and wellbeing service supporting patients with often complex needs including physical, mental health and substance misuse issues.

We offer training and development opportunities in our friendly and supportive teams. Full-time, part-time, flexible working, fixed shift patterns, weekends and nights only contracts are available in addition to a range of other employee benefits.

Shifts times can vary but day cover is from 07:00-19:30 and night cover is 19:00-07:30.

HMP Berwyn is based in beautiful North Wales near to the historic city of Chester. By car it is approximately 20 minutes from Chester, 40 minutes from Liverpool, Warrington and Shropshire. Free on site parking and gym facilities are provided

Health and wellbeing services are delivered seven days a week day throughout the year. Your duties will include first and second reception screening for new arrivals, medication administration, triage and vaccination clinics. Long term condition clinics are a core clinical activity. The role is varied, involving assessing and treating patients and carrying out effective care in an ever changing environment; responding to both their physical and mental well-being needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to join BCUHB Health & Wellbeing Team at HMP Berwyn, who are an integrated multi-disciplinary service.

Four miles outside the historic market town of Wrexham in North Wales, HMP Berwyn is a men’s category C resettlement and training prison, with the aim of helping them increase their chances of employment when they return to their communities, the prison provides its men with access to a wide range of education and training opportunities.

HMP Berwyn opened in 2017, and accommodates up to 2,000 men, HMP Berwyn is a modern prison and currently the largest in the UK. It is committed to providing a safe and educational environment where men can learn new skills to help them when they leave custody.

A state-of-the-art resettlement hub provides an opportunity for individuals to meet work coaches and access training to prepare them for employment. Training in a variety of trades and professions including bricklaying, joinery, plastering and industrial cleaning is available. Plus, men have access to a range of vocational qualifications such as digital media, business enterprise, and information and communications technology (ICT).

HMP Berwyn’s men also have access to a broad programme of learning opportunities – from basic skills such as literacy, Welsh and numeracy, to vocational qualifications and higher learning.
