Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a prestigious healthcare organisation based in Cambridge. With a budget of £203 million and 1,000 beds, it employs over 5,000 staff dedicated to the provision of a wide range of clinical and non-clinical services. The Trust has recently launched its '2020 vision' -- a series of proposals designed to develop Addenbrooke's as a major centre for treatment and research on a European scale.
Formelly known as Addenbrookes, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust gained both a new name, and foundation status, on 1st July 2004.
The Trust is a leading international centre for biomedical research and medical education, and shares its site with the University of Cambridge, the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, the British Heart Foundation and SmithKline Beecham.
The Hospital is a national and regional centre for cancer services, liver transplants, organ transplantation, neurosciences and genetics; 75 liver transplants and 51 renal transplants were carried out last year.
Addenbrooke's is the local district hospital for the 480,000 people who live in the Cambridge sub-region and the surrounding district. It provides a comprehensive acute, maternity and mental health service.
Last year, 45,000 men, women and children were treated as inpatients on hospital wards. There were 56,600 accident and emergency attendances, 275,000 visits to outpatient clinics and 4,708 babies born at the Rosie Hospital.
