Our vision
People who use our hospital services will recommend us to their family and friends (because:).
- their needs and experiences are reflected in everything we do.
- our patients receive care that is safe, effective and accessible.
- the care that we give will be at the highest level of the NHS Standards for Better Health.
Our strategy
Our strategy is to place the patient at the centre, based on principles of Safety, Sustainability and Accountability within an ever-learning environment.
The population we serve
Our Trust provides healthcare services to around 370,000 people from Colchester and the surrounding area of north east Essex. In addition it provides radiotherapy and oncology services to a wider population of about 670,000 across north and mid-Essex.
Our funding
In 2008/09 we delivered an impressive financial performance, both for the one month we were an NHS Trust and the 11 months since becoming a Foundation Trust, achieving an £13.8m surplus for the year (£2.9m 2007/08)
Most of our income comes from NHS North East Essex (the PCT).
Our services
The Trust provides a range of patient services.
Our staff
The Trust employs about 3,400 people, 87% of them are directly involved in patient care.
Our sites
The Trust's main acute hospital site, which was opened in 1984, is Colchester General Hospital. The Trust also owns Essex County Hospital in Colchester, which was opened in 1820 and has two wards used for oncology (cancer) patients.
The Trust also provides services at Halstead Hospital. At Harwich and Clacton community hospitals (both managed by NHS North East Essex (the PCT)) the Trust provides maternity, minor injury and outpatient services.
Our partners
As a member of Colchester 2020 (the Local Strategic Partnership) the Trust is working in partnership with other public, private and voluntary stakeholders.
These include Colchester Borough Council, Colchester Garrison and the University of Essex. We do this to develop a sustainable environment in which people will continue to enjoy high levels of health and well-being but with modern health and social care services for those who need them. The Trust has formal contracts or service level agreements with third parties who provide some essential services. The two main contractors are Carillion for the supply of facilities management services (for example, portering, linen, domestic services, catering, security and grounds management) and Essex Shared Services Agency (ESSA) for the supply of payroll, financial systems management and IT support.
