Became a Trust in 1993, having previously been part of the Anglia and Oxford Region. It provides Acute Services to the local population, with 682 beds.
The West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust manages hospitals of three sites: in Bury St Edmunds, the West Suffolk Hospital provides a full range of acute services, while in Sudbury, the Walnuttree Hospital provides elderly care services and St Leonards Hospital provides x-ray and outpatient services.
There are also consultant led clinics and outpatient services at Newmarket Community Hospital, Thetford Cottage Hospital, Haverhill Health Centre, Mildenhall Clinic & Stowmarket Health Centre.
