King's College Hospital NHS Trust was established in 1993. It is an Acute Services trust with 950 beds and 2075 nursing staff.
The Trust's Mission is: Achieving Excellence in Patient Care
The Strategic Aims are:
To provide services which are relevant to the needs of patients, are appreciated by those who refer patients to King's and which deliver optimal health outcomes.
To create, with King's College London, a University Teaching Hospital environment that fosters excellence in collaborative clinical practice, education, research and development, becomes a focal point for the network of health care delivery in south east London, and leads, in the longer term, to the creation of an academic centre of world renown.
To attract, develop and retain high quality staff, enabling them to reach and use their full potential.
To raise the Trust's level of performance across a comprehensive range of clinical and managerial indicators, so that the Trust is recognised as a national top quartile performer amongst teaching hospitals by April 2001, and subsequently maintains that position. King's College Hospital is a major London teaching hospital serving a diverse local, regional, national and international population.
As well as providing the full range of hospital services for its inner city population of 700,000 in the London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham it is also a regional and national secondary and tertiary centre for Liver disease and transplantation, fetal medicine, neurosciences and neurosurgery and cardiology and cardiac surgery.
