Job overview

A new opportunity has arisen within the Gastroenterology Day Unit nursing team for an experienced Band 6 clinical nurse specialist or Band 5 development post to work with the established Gastroenterology and Colorectal specialist nursing team.   

You will, in conjunction with the Hutchings GI services multi professional team, will be responsible for the provision of care to GI services outpatients attending the unit and will provide care for both outpatients attending the Unit and  complex GI patients who are inpatients at Torbay Hospital.

You should possess excellent communication skills, be highly motivated and ideally have experience of gastroenterology or colorectal surgery. The successful applicant will need to be dynamic and able to work flexibly as part of the MDT; you will need to be resilient and able to influence in order to cope with the demands of the role and the service need.

Hours 20 per week, can be over 2.5 or 3 days.

 

Main duties of the job

 

  • Provides expert advice and management on all aspects of gastrointestinal nursing care, promoting self-care for patients, working in partnership with patients and their families and carers.
  • Participating in the education and development of other staff members and assisting with the development of clinical services
  • Provides clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff and ensures effective running of the GI services day unit and GI services outpatients in the absence of Nurse team manager
  • Carries out nursing procedures required by the patients attending the unit and provides psychological support
  • Administers prescribed infusions, and provide a monitoring service for GI patients, undertaking venepuncture and cannulation daily

Hutchings Day Unit and outpatients is part of  Gastrointestinal Services based on level 8 of Torbay Hospital. It is a multidisciplinary team consisting of GI and colorectal surgeons, Specialist Nurses, AHP’s and admin team.

The friendly team work closely together alongside the consultants and other disciplines in order to provide a seamless patient journey.
