2. Knowledge, training and experience 

• Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse
• Experience of working with/providing care to children with learning disabilities and/or complex health needs in a variety of settings
• Ability to work on own initiative and manage a caseload
• Knowledge of confidentiality
• Understanding of sleep/behaviour/continence difficulties experienced by children
• Experience of working in school and healthcare settings (desirable)
• IT skills

• Make decisions and judgements relating to patient care following assessment

• Understand need for evidence and statistical data collection and achieving KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

6. Responsibility for patient / client care 

• To plan care based on a holistic assessment
• To provide care to children & families with learning disabilities and/or complex health needs in a variety of settings
• To participate in and support qualified team members in health promotion activities and/or social prescribing
• To liaise with children and families; other professionals to ensure effective communication of care
• Safeguard the client group by adhering to child and adult guidelines and procedures; this may involve managing situations where conflicting opinions are expressed
•  
• Actively participate in and support the development of evidence based practice and clinical
• audit in collaboration with lead professionals and managers

7. Responsibility for policy and service development implementation 

• To follow organisational policies, procedures, processes and requirements, relevant to the role and comment on suggested changes where appropriate
• Work in partnership with specialist services to build progressive care pathways and improve health outcomes for children and young people
• Ability to take on the role of link nurse for appropriate subject, ensuring audits are completed and results/actions plans are disseminated

8. Responsibilities for human resources (HR) 

• Maintain professional registration by adhering to NMC requirements
• Participate in regular supervision
• Participate in the organisations’ appraisal programme which includes the ability to monitor and report back on objectives and identify training needs
• To attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service training programmes
• To follow organisational policies, procedures, processes and requirements 

9. Responsibilities for information resources

• Accurately record, monitor and report patients progress using the appropriate electronic notes system e.g. Rio and appropriate legislation
• Knowledge of confidentiality

10. Responsibilities for research and development (R&D)

• Participate in quality initiatives and audits aimed at enhancing care and change
• Participate in the collection and reporting of data and statistics
• Actively participate in and support of evidence based practice and clinical audit in collaboration with managers and lead clinicians.
