Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Emergency Department at NUH as a qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is one of busiest teaching hospitals in Europe and is nationally recognised as having an established Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) service. With approximately 200 qualified and trainee ACPs across multiple specialties to date, we are now seeking committed, enthusiastic and compassionate individuals to join our Emergency Medicine team of ACPs to deliver the highest quality care to our patients. NUH offers qualified ACPs supported career pathways across the pillars of ACP.

With strong partnerships with our local universities we are looking for a health care professional to join us as a qualified ACP. Applicants must be registered with a professional body (NMC, HCPC or equivalent) and undertaken the Non-Medical Prescribing course. 

We are looking to recruit fully qualified ACPs who will undergo a supernumerary induction and assessment period.

Working for our organisation

NUH’s Emergency Department is the region’s major trauma centre and one of the busiest emergency departments in Europe seeing over 170,000 patients a year. Within the emergency department is a nationally recognised and well established ACP service. The team consists of around  65 qualified and trainee ACPs working across both the adult and paediatric emergency departments and we are now looking for extraordinary individuals to join our adult ACP team.

Your clinical development will be well supported by our large ACP team and senior medical workforce. We run a well-established post-graduation plan which is mapped to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine accreditation competencies as well as encompassing the other pillars of advanced practice.

Along with clinical work across the department, the individual will have weekly rostered time to undertake their own continued professional development alongside service development work. They will be given the opportunity to follow personal interests and pursuits whether that is in education, teaching, research or management.

Commitment to Trust Values and Behaviours

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust’s “We are here for you” behavioural standards.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current registration with professional body such as NMC or HCPC.
  • MSc in advanced clinical practice or an equivalent MSc with the NHSE Centre for Advancing Practice Digital Badge.
  • Registered Independent Non-Medical prescriber
  • Evidence of teaching, supervision & assessment skills
  • ALS Provider/Instructor.
Desirable criteria
  • Mentor/assessor and/or teaching qualification.
  • NHSE Centre for Advancing Practice Digital Badge (or working towards it).
  • ACP accreditation and/or membership with Royal College or Faculty, if available within specialty

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Currently working clinically in an autonomous Advanced Practitioner role.
  • Has an up-to-date portfolio of supervised practice in advanced clinical practice
  • Has evidence of continued professional development (CPD) following successful completion of MSc & qualification as an ACP
  • Evidence of multi- professional teaching.
Desirable criteria
  • Management and leadership experience
  • Evidence of involvement in policy and practice change.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work within a multi-professional team, often presenting and receiving complex information
  • Negotiating and influencing skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Assertiveness skills and the ability to deal with interpersonal conflict.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles that facilitate building honest & trusting partnerships with patients, families, & carers

Analytical and Judgement skills

  • Ability to schedule work commitments across the four pillars of advanced practice with CPD & relevant academic workloads.

Essential criteria
  • Able to undertake required clinical duties/procedures.
  • Ability to manoeuvre patients and perform clinical examinations as required
  • Ability to undertake computer and other equipment skills.
