Main duties of the job

Theatre posts are suitable for both newly qualified and experienced practitioners. You would work as part of a highly skilled team where you can gain a wealth of experience. Candidates interested in developing a career in theatres will have the opportunity to develop a range of relevant skills as we have a dedicated education team in place with a comprehensive education strategy which underpins the development of all grades of staff within theatres, facilitating career development and progression.  

In Theatres we provide a supportive learning environment which includes preceptorship, supernumerary status while achieving competencies with further support in the initial phase of working solo.  We offer an in-house perioperative course, support with revalidation, leadership and career development.  Experienced staff are encouraged and supported to further develop using the educational and experiential learning opportunities available depending on your chosen career path.  

We have implemented shared governance which will provide an ideal opportunity for professional development and the chance to influence and deliver change in the departments. Further CPD is available including the PG Cert/Dip Advanced Perioperative Care. This course is accredited by the University of Northampton and delivered in the Trust.

Person specification

Education, training, qualifications and experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1. 8. 12 or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register depending on area of practice), ODP HCPC registration or National Certification in area of Practice
  • UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post or equivalent qualification for ODPs.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an NMC/HCPC revalidation
  • Minimum of 2 years registered nurse/ODP experience
  • Evidence of achievement of an NMC approved Mentorship qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice
