An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Sheffield Haemophilia & Thrombosis Centre at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The role will have an element of focus on TTP (Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura), but you will also be involved with caring for patients with other inherited and acquired bleeding disorders to support the needs of the overall service. Your role will involve working alongside the CNS/ACP team, Consultant leads & MDT to ensure the safety of patients with inherited and acquired bleeding disorders.

The established team have vast experience of caring for patients with bleeding disorders and will support you in the development of your role.
The role involves a combination of indirect/direct clinical & nonclinical work which involves participation with network wide education, audit & governance.

Participation in MDT & consultant led clinics, development of the specialist nursing role within the service & network, being the point of contact for long term patients under surveillance and producing education, patient information and safe pathways for patients will be core roles for you once in post.

To provide professional care in the speciality of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura and related disorders and to act as a resource for education and specialist clinical knowledge in hospital, network and community settings.

To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-professional healthcare team.

To act autonomously and as part of the MDT, guided by clinical protocols and relevant investigations and procedures employed in the diagnosis and treatment of TTP  and related disorders. This includes prescribing treatments as appropriate (if a qualified nonmedical prescriber).

To have specialist knowledge and skills in the management of TTP and related disorders.

To offer an individual and comprehensive service and psychological support to patients and carers respecting their diverse cultural and ethical backgrounds.

To support the data management & clinical research facilities teams in maintaining local and national registries from which audits can be performed.

To participate in designing and delivering new care pathways and services and in the development and implantation of policy, standards, guidelines and protocols.

To support the Matron, ACP`s and Clinical Nurse Specialists, providing clinical and managerial expertise in all aspects of the speciality ensuring the highest standard of nursing care.

To work across hospital sites & the recognised regional TTP network where indicated and as the needs of the service change.

The Sheffield Haemophilia & Thrombosis Centre is a designated Comprehensive Care Centre providing support and management for patients and families affected by inherited and acquired disorders of haemostasis including haemophilia, immune thrombocytopenic purpura, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura & antiphospholipid syndrome. The trust has recently been awarded a successful bid to become a recognised NHS England designated centre for the care of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) across the Yorkshire/Humber region.

Education and Qualification

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse with the NMC
  • Advanced Diploma in nursing studies or equivalent
  • Shown degree level working or relevant specialist experience
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
  • Non Medical Prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake the course
Meini prawf dymunol
  • APACs or willingness to undertake
  • Completion of Non-Medical Authorisation of blood products course or willingness to undertake

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience of working at Band 6 level or significant experience at Band 5 level
  • Clinical experience in the care of TTP and bleeding disorder patients or associated clinical area e.g. apheresis, critical care or haematology
  • Teaching/mentoring experience
  • Evidence of being able to work across organisational boundaries
  • Experience of participating in clinical audit
  • Clinical governance and risk management experience
  • Understanding of the national strategic context of the NHS
  • Evidence of developing practice and improving standards
