In collaboration with Dementia UK, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals are looking to recruit an exceptional registered nurse with a passion for, and experience of, providing relationship centred dementia care to join our team as an Admiral Nurse.

Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who work with and support people with dementia and their families. As the Band 6 Admiral Nurse, you will be based between the Northern General/Royal Hallamshire Hospitals and in the community; working within the acute inpatient setting, and post discharge follow up in care homes and home settings, to influence, deliver and coordinate relationship centred dementia care.

As an Admiral Nurse, you will deliver specialist one -to-one support, guidance and practical solutions for families, alongside supporting best practice and providing role modelling within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. You will also influence and lead on the delivery of work streams that improve the experience of care for people living with dementia, and their families throughout their hospital stay and across care transitions.

The successful applicant will be an NMC registered nurse, with significant post-registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia and supporting their carers/supporters in different settings, including the acute setting, along with formal knowledge of dementia acquired through clinical post-graduate training/education.

You will be employed by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals on a 2 year fixed term contract, working under the direct management of one of the Band 7 Transitions of Care Admiral Nurse, within the Combined, Community and Acute Care Group.

You will receive ongoing support from Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care. You will also become part of the wider network of Admiral Nurses and will have the opportunity to access relevant post graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 24 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

  • Evidence of continued professional development/training in dementia/older people
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
