Based in the North East of England, we provide a range of hospital, community and older persons mental health services from our leading facilities including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon Urgent Care Centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead. We provide cutting edge care from some of our state-of-the-art facilities including a £32m Emergency Care Centre, a £12m Pathology centre of excellence and the beautifully designed Peter Smith Surgery Centre.
Established in 2005, we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and have a longstanding national reputation for providing high-quality care, as demonstrated by our latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC); rated as ‘good’ overall, with ‘outstanding’ ratings for care and surgical services
As a group, we employ around 4,500 staff and currently provide 600 hospital beds across Gateshead. Our primary focus is on providing excellent general health services to our local community complemented by key specialist areas including gynaecology, maternity, palliative care and old age psychiatry. Our group includes QE Facilities, established in December 2014, which has built on the solid foundations of the NHS and now provides a flexible range of high-quality non-clinical estates and facilities services to the hospital and other organisations. The company has grown since this time, for example through our QE transport service that underpins our Pathology Centre.
Alongside a full range of local NHS services, we provide breast screening services for Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and parts of Durham – and we are the North Eastern hub for the National Bowel Cancer, HPV and AAA Screening Programmes, covering a population of around seven million people.
The health and wellbeing of our staff is one of our highest priorities, and we offer a range of support and initiatives as part of our ‘Balance’ programme to cater for our diverse workforce, so that your individual needs can be supported, allowing you a happy and healthy working experience with us. We also actively encourage conversations about flexible working to help you to achieve a healthy work-life balance. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications which represent the diversity of the communities in which we operate.
We consistently rate highly as a place people would recommend others to work, with the majority of our staff (nearly 80%) saying they would recommend working at Gateshead. We aim to attract and retain a talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career – so come and join our Gateshead family.
Whilst we await the outcome of the review of the Governments regulations in respect of mandatory vaccines we are continuing to ask all new recruits to provide evidence of their double vaccination status as part of pre-employment checking.
The Trust supports its aim of providing a healthy environment for all service users, visitors and staff by operating a smoke free policy on all sites.
