Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Dova unit at Dane Garth for the position of Clinical Lead on our 20 bedded mixed sex acute inpatient ward.  

As a clinical lead you will provide effective clinical leadership and take charge of the ward whilst on duty. Promote the interests of the service user and ensure that delegated nursing care is effectively implemented in a safe manner. This will be achieved by using research, audit and enquiry to plan, implement and evaluate concepts and strategies leading to improvements in patient care

You will exercise professional accountability and responsibility using professional skills, knowledge and expertise in changing environments, across professional boundaries and in unfamiliar situations. 

The acute ward is a busy and at times challenging environment at the post holder will have opportunities to engage in regular supervision and provide clinical supervision to other staff members. 

In the absence of the ward manager the will undertake return to works, engage in the operational and governance meetings and support the safe staffing model.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead a team of registered nurses and nursing assistants in the delivery of mental health care. Education/qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse Qualification.(RNMH & RNLD)
  • On-going registration with the NMC.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development that supports clinical practice.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Can demonstrate an understanding and knowledge base of mental health conditions and their treatments.
  • Can demonstrate a working knowledge of physical health conditions and the complications that this can cause to patients experiencing mental ill health.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post Graduate experience.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team structure.
  • Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and reviewing care needs.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication, listening, decision making and problem solving skills. v
  • Developed clinical nursing skills with a clear ability to understand new concepts and ideas in clinical practice.
  • Can provide evidence of recent continued professional development within the scope of nursing.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to manage change and have an understanding and awareness of the NHS Plan.
