Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Staff Nurse to join the dynamic and supportive team on 8 North Ward—a 22-bedded unit specialising in Endocrinology and General Medicine.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced nurse with a strong background in acute medical care. The successful candidate will be confident in taking charge of the ward, leading shifts, and supporting the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical leadership and act as a role model for junior staff and students.
  • Take responsibility for the coordination of care and safe discharge planning.
  • Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and compassionate care.
  • Collaborate effectively with the wider MDT to manage complex medical patients.
  • Support staff development through mentorship and supervision.
  • Plan organise and deploy staff according to ability and workload in order to meet patient needs.
  • Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Springboard leadership Program or equivalent.
  • Practice Assessor course or equivalent

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teaching.
  • Ability to organise ward activities and to use initiative
  • Ability to solve problems and contribute new ideas
  • Competency in medication administration including IV medications
  • Skills required to undertake clinical activity related to speciality
  • Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of being link nurse in any subject and facilitating teaching sessions for staff, monthly audit and measure results.
  • Lead local quality improvement projects.

Experience

  • Previous experience of speciality
  • Experience in complex discharge processes and overall patients’ flow.
