Same – Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Senior Sister/ Senior Charge Nurse

Band 7 

Hours per week 18.5 - part time - all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a  Senior Sister/ Senior  Charge Nurse to provide nursing leadership to the most dynamic team of   Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC)  in Maple Center which opened in October 2022  which provides same-day emergency care for patients at our hospital. This means that patients are assessed, treated and can go home the same day without being admitted overnight.

 

It is a way of providing safe care, designed for the needs of the patient. The service also aims to prevent unnecessary admissions and provide a better experience for patients.

The post holder will be responsible in managing and leading all nursing staff to deliver the highest standards of care in SDEC. The post holder will manage the front door specialist services such as Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), Veno-thromboembolism (VTE), Anticoagulant Bridging Clinic and Planned Care Unit.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the delivery of health care to patients within Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and the operational management of the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) .

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the assessment of patient care needs; the development, implementation and evaluation of care and the setting of standards of care.

The post holder will manage the deployment and supervision of staff and the teaching of student and orchestrating the timely and appropriate admissions of patients to the Trust.

The post holder will actively support change, service development and roll out of new initiatives to promote patient centred, personal and effective care for all.

The post holder will undertake the leadership and development of an identified group of nurses.

The balance between practice and management will vary according to day-to-day priorities but will be negotiated overall with the Lead Nurse / Senior Nurse.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

To act as coordinator and nurse in charge of the day between Medical and Surgical Same Day Emergency.

To take and exercise clinical judgement in accepting suitable medical referrals from Emergency Department, Urgent Care, South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), East of England Ambulance service , 111 and   General Practice Surgeries according to agreed pathways.

MANAGER of NURSING and ADMINISTRATIVE WORKFORCE:

 

Organises staff (according to competence) time and equipment for work completion.

Supervises the delivery of quality nursing care.

Praises and guide team members as appropriate and is involved in personal development review of the workforce using KSF/performance review.

MANAGER OF RESOURCES

 

Plans the deployment of staff within the department and ensures that safe staffing levels are maintained over the expected opening hours using the electronic roster, reporting any deficiencies to the Matron.

 

Actively contribute to the attainment of national targets in relation to same day emergency care.

 

ASSESOR /MENTOR of individual nursing for pre-registration nursing staff

 

Ensure policies are maintained at all times

 

Facilitate an effective flow of communication within the clinical area.

 

Interprets the significance of data to the patient’s condition and progress.

 

Identify and discuss nursing problems or needs with the patients, their relatives and other staff.

  • Current NMC registration.
