Job overview
As a Paediatric Quality and Safety Nurse your role is to support the wider Multi disciplinary team with patient safety with a focus on risk management and sharing of learning from incidents.
To support teams to follow the PSIRF framework and provide expertise to facilitate the delivery of high quality reports.
To support families involved in patient safety incidents and support with undertaking Compassionate engagement.
Act as a professional role model, provide direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, audit and research, this involves managing a wide range of complex and sometime conflicting priorities.
To work with the Lead Nurse for Risk and Governance to monitor compliance relating to patient safety.
Main duties of the job
- Risk Nurse will be responsible for supporting the multi-disciplinary team when incidents have occurred in relation to patient safety.
- Working collaboratively with the governance team and medical directors to ensure robust investigations are carried out when incidents have occurred.
- Sharing between teams the learning from incidents that have occurred through the process of Safety huddles and teaching opportunities.
- Reviewing of incident reporting and undertaking local audits to improve patient outcomes. Collating of data relating to patient safety and risk management.
- Rolling out of new processes and guidance that support change in practice, providing high quality lived-experience specific supervision,
- Coordinate development to provide study days for nursing staff to provide further training on patient safety and incident management.
Work closely with the external agencies for completion of incident reports.

Education
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/RN Child/RSCN
- Post registration qualification in specialty
- Educated to postgraduate diploma/degree level or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- MSc/MRes or working towards this qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of Risk Management and Audits in a clinical area
- Experience and knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
- Experience in managing complaints and quality assurance
Desirable criteria
- Evidence in Quality Improvement/Project Management
Skills
Essential criteria
- Organisation and management skills, i.e. Negotiating skills, Team building skills and Appraisal skills
