Senior Endoscopy Sister / Charge Nurse

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

 

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to join our team as a Band 7 Senior Endoscopy Sister / Charge Nurse. Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) Endoscopy service is based over 2 sites (MKUH and Whitehouse Park Community Diagnostic Centre (WHP). The units are purpose built to support outpatient and inpatient endoscopic procedures. It consists of four Endoscopy theatres at MKUH, one of which has the facilities to undertake X- ray screening and laser procedures and two Endoscopy theatres at WHP.

This role is pivotal in ensuring that senior leadership is provided at both sites for the staff within the Endoscopy Units thus ensuring there is efficiency, effectiveness and productivity in the units.

The successful candidate’s main responsibility will be acting as a strong and visible role model within the department, provide excellent clinical leadership, represent the department at meeting, develop and establish a culture where staff are encouraged to develop their skills and support colleagues within the Endoscopy team.   

The applicant must have at least 2 years previous Endoscopy experience at Band 6 level, a NMC registration is vital for this role and only applicants with a valid NMC registration, will be considered for this role.

Main duties of the job

 

•To maintain the highest standards of patient care at all times, ensuring that quality and compassion are your top priorities.

•To develop the Ward philosophy of nursing and its contribution to the Trust’s and division’s nursing philosophy of care, ensuring that all policies and procedures are implemented and to lead on the development of nursing practice.

•To continually review the setting of staffing levels/skill mix in accordance with the changing needs of the service and informing the Senior Nurse of any problems that may arise.

•To ensure efficient management of resources, fulfilment of contractual obligations and achievement of National Standards and government targets.

•Maintain personal contact with patients, relatives and carers being courteous and sensitive to their needs for privacy and dignity and act as an effective role model ensuring a friendly environment at all times.

•Communicating, influencing and working with the multidisciplinary team to promote excellent care and informed clinical decisions.

•Ensuring that accurate and timely nursing records are maintained, monitoring standards and taking corrective action as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         Act as a credible, strong and visible role model in the ward ensuring that there is regular contact with patients, carers and staff.

·         Provide excellent clinical leadership by demonstrating best practice in the clinical environment, working on a one-to-one basis with both staff and patients and engaging with other members of the MDT to observe performance of care from all levels; challenging, correcting or encouraging as practice is observed, ensuring high standards are maintained.

·         Ensure that there are systems in place to store, check and administer medicines in accordance with the Trust, National and NMC standards and policies.

·         To promote innovative and collaborative working practice within the nursing and multi-disciplinary team, to ensure an effective working environment is developed and maintained and to ensure outside agencies are involved where appropriate.

·         Representing the ward/department at meetings, participating in audit, research and other projects, whilst contributing to the development of policy Trust wide. 

·         To actively participate with MDT meetings raising and discussing concerns and actively seeking acceptable and best outcomes solutions for the patients.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • RGN with 3years relevant post registration experience.
  • Relevant First Degree/ENB 237/A27 or equivalent
  • ENB 998 and relevant teaching experience.
  • Evidence of own updating and academic education
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced Communication skills training

Experience

  • RGN with minimum 3 years post registration experience in specialty
  • Experience of managing an endoscopy unit
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience at Band 6 level.
  • Excellent communication skills
