Emergency Nurse Practitioner

As a Nurse led Minor injury unit within a busy Emergency department, #TeamMKUH are looking for experienced Band 7 Emergency Nurse/Paramedic practitioners with an empirical knowledge base and decision-making skills to work autonomously in minor injuries and illnesses.

You will be working collaborative with a dynamic and supportive team of adult and child nurses and doctors, and other members of a large multidisciplinary team.

Whether taking the lead in clinical audits, contributing to service development, or participating in training initiatives, you’ll have the chance to grow professionally while shaping the quality of healthcare services for Milton Keynes and wider community.

Contributing your advanced clinical knowledge and confident decision-making will be vital in keeping our patients safe, comfortable, and well-informed.

What are we looking for? 

  • Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner in a community and/ or emergency setting. Skills in Xray interpretation, fracture management and wound closure.
  • An independent Nurse Prescriber Qualification would be advantageous.
  • Be able to work 10 or 12 hour shifts to enable the service provision of the minor injury unit until midnight.

What are we looking for?

Requires current NMC registration with an Advanced Clinical Practice MSc/Pg Dip (or working towards). Completion of an accredited minor injuries and minor illness / physical assessment qualifications are essential for this post.

The post holder is identified as a clinical expert practitioner within the Emergency Department with advanced knowledge and skills in the effective and efficient management of patients with minor injuries/illnesses.

The post holder is expected to work as a skilled senior practitioner who has an expert knowledge of Emergency Nursing theory and practices. ENP's may occasionally be expected to take charge of the unit providing effective leadership and management of the nursing team.

The primary focus of the role is work as an autonomous advanced practitioner providing high quality and timely

patient centred care.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and speciality referral or discharge of a diverse range of patients with minor injuries/mlnor illnesses, without reference to a doctor and within their level of competence and agreed protocols.

To ensure efficient management of resources and achievement of national standards as a member of the Divisional Team.

  • To act as an expert practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competence and a knowledge base beyond those associated with conventional nursing roles.

 

  • To ensure me safe and efficient management of the of the Minors area, assessing the workload and delegating to staff appropriately.

 

  • To ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care, delivered in a timely manner.

·  Ensure that professional practice adheres to Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.

 

·    To maintain a professional manner and act as a role model for junior staff.

·  To provide appropriate clinical, operational and management support as well as professional advice within Emergency department.

 

· Takes appropriate action with the department Co-ordinator in managing demands on the department and ensure that the ED escalation plan is utilised.

 

·  To promote and demonstrate effective communication networks across the division and the Trust.

 

Educational / Personal Development

·     Maintains an excellent learning environment and has an active teaching role.

·    To work with a consultant supervisor/mentor to support clinical practice and development of knowledge/skills — providing evidence on an annual basis of all clinical skills and knowledge.

·       Adheres to revalidation requirements.

·       To participate in defining own developmental plan.

Experience
