We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity to join our Hepatology team and directly shape the future of liver disease care within a newly established CDC centre.

In this dynamic role, you will work side-by-side with a Hepatology Specialist Nurse (CNS), fibroscanning patients and operating under the expert guidance of our Hepatology team and Consultants. You will play a vital role in supporting the CNS in the advancement of care for patients with fatty liver disease and alcohol-related liver disease. This will be achieved through a newly established diagnostic centre for liver disease, sponsored by the local CDC.

You will play a crucial role in maintaining our commitment to high-standard, efficient, and safe Fibroscan delivery. As Fibroscanning (Transient Elastography) is an increasingly vital, non-invasive tool for measuring liver fibrosis, your contribution will be essential to our service's advanced diagnostic capabilities.

You will be instrumental in delivering a pioneering CDC clinic for liver disease patients referred directly from GPs, creating a seamless and efficient pathway to diagnosis and treatment.

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, with exciting cross-site working opportunities across Watford, Hemel Hempstead, and St. Albans hospitals.

Main duties of the job

• Effectively carry out Fibroscans  and support the team in the delivery of the fibroscan service , to a high standard and in accordance with local and national training protocols (training will be provided);

• Ability to access local hospital patient administration systems and data to identify appropriate patients.

• To contact patients that are disengaged with the service and support them back into the hepatology clinic, send blood forms, remind patients of the importance of having the investigations ahead of hepatology appointment.

• Work effectively with the hepatology multi-disciplinary team; 

• To contribute to the quality assurance process departmentally and undertake audit and quality improvement as required.

• Support the team with accurate data collection.

• To identify patients that should be on the Liver Surveillance Pathway (LSP) that are not currently listed, including those that have failed to attend and / or are lost to follow-up.

• Act as a liaison for all healthcare professionals involved in health care provision to facilitate integrated patient focused care.

• To treat all patients with dignity, respect and high standards of care.

• To assist with raising awareness of liver disease- health promotion;

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To effectively deliver Fibroscans  and support the team in the delivery of the fibroscan service , to a high standard and in accordance with local and national training protocols (training will be provided);

Ability to access local hospital patient administration systems and data to identify appropriate patients.

Collecting data and submitting to internal and external department/organisations within required deadline (Cerner and Eclipse) .

To ensure that regular, timely and accurate information is provided to hospital management and clinicians by the application of appropriate collection and presentation techniques to data extracted from any of the Trust’s patient-based information systems. 

Liaising with clinical and non-clinical team regarding required data and submitting reports.

Communication with other members of the clinical and administrative hepatology team.

Highlighting any concerns to line manager in a timely manner.

Undertake fibroscans and write fibroscan reports following SOP and guidance from the hepatology team  

Proactive and efficient in managing own caseload 

Keep up to date with current guidelines/ policies /SOPs related to the area of expertise. 

Maintain NMC code of practice standards (for qualified B4);

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable ability to meet Trust values
  • Excellent command of English - high standard of grammar and spelling
  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics(Grades A-C) or equivalent
  • NVQ4 or NVQ3 plus additional training to diploma level equivalent, or equivalent through short courses
  • NVQ level 3, experience would be expected
  • Keyboards skills for regular use of computer systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages eg PowerPoint, Word, Excel and other IT skills acquired through training and practical experience
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal , organisational and planning skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in an NHS Information and co-ordinating role.
  • Evidence of continuing education and personal development.
  • Coaching or teaching qualification

Knowledge:

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS policies
  • Knowledge of cancer targets
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Knowledge of medical Terminology Understanding of the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.

  • Advance knowledge and highly skilled in the use of MS Excel and IT systems.
