The post holder will be responsible for setting supporting Advanced Echo Service including Stress Echo, Bubble/Contrast Studies and Transoesophageal echocardiograms and be able to:
- Assist in the provision of specialist-nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.
- The post holder will deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical specialty. This will involve dealing with situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
- To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
- Support the service by attending MDTs.
Main duties of the job
- Triaging referrals into each pathway, co-ordinate relevant investigations and preparation for MDT discussion.
- Co-ordinate and support the in-patient and out-patient pathways, liaising with specialist teams including cardiothoracic, anesthetic, interventional, HF, pulmonary hypertension and ICU amongst others
- Maintain clinical databases to support workflow and audit, as well as research projects.
- Level 1 echocardiogram training and accreditation.
- In time the development of nurse led clinics for valve patients
- As part of a teaching hospital there will be opportunities to develop further teaching and training skills, which will be encouraged.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Extensive experience in Cardiac Nursing equivalent to diploma level ILS or ALS
- Have at least 12 months experience in Cardiology
Desirable criteria
- Has attained a Degree in management
Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- Being able to manage patients with a wide range of cardiac conditions and implantable devices
- Good ECG interpretation
- Demonstrate the ability to compile complex written information
- Evidence of applying current research to practice.
- Understanding of Microsoft office including Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate commitment through involvement in Trust wide initiatives/ committees.
- Managing patients with cardiac arrhythmias
- Managing patients with complex cardiac conditions
