Job overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our experienced Children’s Community Learning Disability Team.

You will work with children and young people aged 0–18 who have a diagnosed learning disability and may present with additional needs such as:

  • Autism spectrum conditions
  • Communication difficulties
  • Challenging behaviours
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Mental health concerns
  • Physical health needs

You will provide specialist nursing input across a range of community settings including homes, schools, respite services, and clinics. The role involves family-centred care, working closely with parents/carers, education providers, social care, and other health professionals to promote positive outcomes and reduce health inequalities

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of the job include:

  • Undertaking holistic assessments and contribute to multi-agency care planning
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions to support emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and physical health
  • Provide specialist advice and training to families, schools, and other professionals
  • Facilitating and conducting workshops and group work
  • Support safeguarding processes and contribute to risk assessments
  • Promote health education and preventative care
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate clinical records using electronic systems (Rio)

  • Part 5 or 14 of NMC register
  • 2 –3 years’ experience

Knowledge

  • A means of mobility around Lancashire and South Cumbria Ability to support people who have a learning disability on an individual and group basis
  • Knowledge of contemporary health learning disability policy
  • Knowledge and skills in the assessment / management of risk
  • Demonstrates reflective practice.

Experience

  • Experience of working in community setting
  • Experience of working with children and young people who have learning disabilities.
  • Experience of project development.
  • Experience of managing others
