Liaison & Diversion Team Manager 

We’re looking for a qualified Mental Health nurse, Learning Disabilities nurse, Occupational Therapist, Health visitor or Social Worker to join our Liaison and Diversion team. You will have a keen interest in Liaison and Diversion and a passion about supporting our service users as they make their way through police custody, court and prison.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality services through the provision of efficient and effective operational management and line management support. 

  • Lead with implementing service redesign initiatives which meet local and national priorities and are in line with commissioning intentions and strategic overviews.  

  • Provide highly specialised expert professional clinical advice to the team considering all aspects of clinical governance to promote and develop the use of evidence-based practice to improve outcomes. 

Working pattern + Service operating hours 

Our service operates in police custody from 7am-8pm, 7 days a week fulfil Our service operates in court from 9am-5pm, 5 days a week. Our service operates across the Thames Valley area so travel across our sites will be expected, some of these sites are not accessible via public transport. Any request for specific working pattens can be considered In line with our flexible working policy.   

The post holder working hours will be Monday – Friday, 09am – 5pm (excluding bank holidays).  

Work base: 

You will work from a mixture of criminal Justice sites such as police custody, court, prison and across BHFT sites across Thames Valley when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The “must haves” for this role:  

  • A professional qualification at degree level or equivalent in either Mental Health Nursing, Learning Disabilities Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Health Visitor, Speech & Language Therapist or Social Work along with the relevant registration. 
  • Significant post registration experience. 
  • Driving licence holder with access to your own vehicle who is prepared to travel to multiple sites across Thames Valley as required.

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with NMC or HCPC registration.
  • A professional qualification at degree level or equivalent in either Mental Health Nursing, Learning Disabilities Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Health Visitor, Speech & Language Therapist or Social Work along with the relevant registration.
  • Significant post registration education with relevant field
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership/Management course qualification

Continuous Professional Development

  • Significant Experience at a Band 7
  • Evidence of continual clinical professional development in relevant field

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working within community and with clients within criminal justice pathway.
  • Evidence of multi-disciplinary team and partnership working
  • Involvement in recruitment and selection processes
  • Leading staff appraisal, induction, mentorship and preceptorship
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS structure and recent initiatives

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of the current modernisation agenda for health and justice and Liaison & Diversion
  • Evidence of managing financial framework
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and understanding of own leadership style
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding the HR legal framework in order to advise teams

Additional Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Full valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to secure police vetting. For the purposes of police vetting, the candidate will require at least three-years residency in the UK.
