Job overview

Are you a compassionate, proactive nurse who is passionate about improving public health? Do you want to play a vital role in tackling TB across London? We are looking for an enthusiastic NMC-registered nurse to join our friendly and highly skilled TB nursing team. While experience in TB care is preferred, a willingness to learn and grow in this field is essential.

As a valued member of our tri-site TB service across Charing Cross Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital, and St Mary’s Hospital, you will provide high-quality care to both adults and children, in inpatient and outpatient settings. Our service also delivers TB healthcare at HMP Wormwood Scrubs, offering you a truly varied and impactful role.

Main duties of the job

  • To demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients / clients, relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations. This will include provision of information and support to relatives/ Carers as appropriate.
  • Case management support activities such as re-engaging patients with treatment, escorting patients and phlebotomy.
  • Provide support for those with TB disease to enable successful completion of treatment.
  • To participate in the business planning process, helping to identify areas for service development.
  • To effectively and efficiently use resources & maintain adequate stock levels, adhering to procedures for the use of supplies.
  • Actively manage own annual leave in line with Trust and local Policy and Procedure.
  • Identify and keep a record of all cases of tuberculosis, in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency and London TB Register notification systems.
  • Demonstrate through a holistic approach to nursing care and day to day clinical issues an understanding of evidence based practice.

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse
  • Diploma / first level degree in nursing or related subject
  • SLICE or equivalent
  • Degree level learning or willingness to work towards
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of recent continuing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience, at senior Band 5 level in the community, medicine, respiratory, HIV, Infectious Diseases or TB
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and children including those experiencing homelessness, substance misuse, mental health and immigration problems
  • Experience of multi professional working
Desirable criteria
  • Able to supervise and manage junior staff
  • Leadership skills

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of current professional nursing & health care issues
  • Awareness of the key challenges related to TB control in the UK
  • Awareness of TB case management and national TB guidelines
  • Demonstrates ability to develop skills to provide standard case management to individuals with TB
  • Knowledge of audit and research
  • Knowledge of polices related to staff management
  • Competent interpersonal skills
  • IT literate
  • Excellent level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication
