Due to service expansion we are seeking an experienced, motivated and energetic individual to join our neurology service as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner for Epilepsy. To be part of the team leading MKUH towards a higher level of clinical excellence and continually be part of improving service delivery for our patients.
This rapidly expanding modern and busy service has led to investment into the service to ensure effective and timely patient care. This developing service is supported by the forward-thinking medicine division.
We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse with demonstrable clinical experience and qualifications within the field of epilepsy and who is able to function well in a team as well as under their own initiative and who can respond to changing service priorities with this patient group.
We are looking for an individual who is autonomous and will run outpatient clinics with the support of the consultant team, alongside ward referrals. You will also be an active member of the Neurology team supporting patients and their families through their treatment and beyond.
You will deliver and support high standards of clinical care both as a direct care giver and indirectly through the support and education of the wider workforce.

The post holder will contribute to the work of epilepsy nursing within the outpatient setting and across the hospital.
This leadership role will encompass:
• Clinical assessment, treatment, care and support of patients at all stages of their pathway
• Information and support to patients, families and carers
• Clinical support of senior nursing and medical staff in decisions regarding care and treatment plan.
It is expected that the individual will be: an expert practitioner in nursing with a high level of clinical credibility; the ability to establish close working relationships with senior nurses and medical staff together with the community; the ability to influence policy and practice.
The post holder will work closely with the neurology medical team.

Act as Nurse Specialist in Epilepsy to promote good practice in the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with epilepsy.
Take the nursing lead in providing a seamless, high-quality service to people with epilepsy both in the hospital and community.
Provide support, advice and education to patients, families and carers.
Undertake research into epilepsy and continuing personal and professional development.
Clinical duties
Act as an expert practitioner in the management of epilepsy demonstrating advanced clinical skills and knowledge to professional staff and patients.
Develop/maintain nurse led clinics, advising patients with a diagnosis of epilepsy in management of the condition, medication, safety and lifestyle issues.
Act as an expert practitioner in the prioritization and management of acute and chronic patients health problems, intervening appropriately.
Professional
Analyse and interpret national recommendations, ie. NICE guidance and formulate action plans to achieve compliance from a nursing perspective.
Interpret the impact of public health data/information in evaluating patient’s needs, pattern of disease and effectiveness of interventions/programme of care.
To act as an expert practitioner and role model, demonstrating advanced skills and knowledge to professional staff and patients in the nursing care of individual patients.
Managerial
Provide leadership, demonstrating transformational leadership skills, developing the service in conjunction with the medical and operational team
Assumes accountability and responsibility for practice and along with the members of the healthcare team, strives to attain the highest standard of practices
Develop and implement service policies with other relevant agencies, where relevant for own area of specialism and propose policy or service changes which impact beyond own area of activity
Attend pertinent meetings of professional associations and relevant specialist conference in order to update knowledge
Actively participate in external networks and attend events in the area of epilepsy in order to maintain expert knowledge base
